Recognizing the need for high-quality specialty care, our physicians formed the first ophthalmic Ambulatory Surgery Center in Georgia. Each physician also serves on the staff of The Medical Center of Central Georgia, the Coliseum Medical Centers, and Macon Northside Hospital, providing eye care to the Central Georgia community. About Our Staff Everyone at the Eye Center is committed to providing the utmost in quality eye care. Upon arriving, you will be greeted by friendly receptionists who will swiftly assist you in registering as a new patient or checking in as an established patient. Your insurance information will be verified so that we may file you insurance when appropriate. You will be asked to complete a medical history form for your doctor to review. Once you have checked in, an ophthalmic technician will escort you to one of our examination rooms. Our technicians are all trained professionals who will review your medical history and help to establish the reason for your exam. They will also perform several diagnostic eye tests, including the refraction (vision test) as well as a glaucoma (eye pressure) check. All of our technicians are constantly gaining new skills through continuing education workshops, self-study, and instruction from our doctors. Many are Certified Ophthalmic Assistants (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technicians (COT). Our technicians are trained to perform many diagnostic eye tests that your doctor might order, including tests for color vision, muscle balance, and visual field assessment. They are also able to perform detailed mapping of the cornea, fluorescein angiograms, and nerve fiber analysis through specialized photography equipment. If your doctor recommends surgery, you will be able to talk with our surgery coordinator, who will help you choose a convenient date. She will go over all the necessary instructions about the procedure that your doctor has ordered and answer any questions you may have about your surgery. Before your surgery date arrives, she will verify your insurance benefits and give you an estimate of your financial responsibility. Our refractive coordinator is available daily for free consultations about refractive surgery, like LASIK. She can help you determine whether you are a candidate for refractive surgery and help you prepare for the procedure. You will have an opportunity to get all of the pertinent information and explore the various affordable payment options for refractive surgery. Our surgical staff is made up of a highly trained team of professionals, including a Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and several Registered Nurses (RN) and certified scrub technicians. They are eager to make your visit to our surgery center a pleasant experience and will see that your needs are met in a prompt, efficient and caring manner.
